My Favourite Part of My Commute

I know it’s been done before, but I can’t help but show pictures of traffic that I whip by on my bike.

Here's a site I pass by every day on my way home from work. This is freedom?

And the other direction

The other side of the overpass. Compare the relative speeds by measuring the closer cars headlights with the taillights in the opposite direction

Notice the headlights to the bottom of the picture compared with the taillights directly above them? The long trails indicate movement and the southbound lane heading toward 401 is not moving. The picture was taken on the Lexington St. overpass which is still a long way from the 401.

There’s probably 3 or 4 other spots where I pass traffic that’s waiting in huge lines for traffic signals. It’s a little bit of sour grapes, but I think that’s my favourite part of my commute.

  1. “This is freedom”

I can’t help but think of all those car commercials (that are on every 40 seconds), showing people whizzing through cities and on highways, yet never show what it’s really like…Stuck in traffic most of the time.

I remember when I was younger and our family would visit relatives in Toronto, I always said I’d love to “do this drive everyday” from St. Catharines to Toronto…My Dad & Mom both laughed and said you’d get tired of the traffic in less then a week.

In the off chance I get stuck in traffic now on a bike, I just enjoy my surroundings or take advantage of riding a bike and use a more bike/pedestrian route!

    1. Exactly the thoughts I had this morning as I sat in traffic in my car.

The snow was deep, so I opted for the auto. I’m sure it would have been faster on my bike.

      1. This time of year I’m usually thankful I work from home. I don’t have to go out if I don’t need to.

Yesterday would have had me walking or taking transit.
